This is the day your life will surely change…..

How long has it been since you’ve heard this 1983 classic by THE THE!!?? Since my older sister is getting married 1 week from today, I’ve deemed this her theme song for the week!!

Also, this song came up in a conversation last night while discussing the 1995 classic movie EMPIRE RECORDS. This song was featured in this movie, and I remember listening to it on my Empire Records soundtrack (nerd alert!). I will admit that I have watched Empire Records in recent years and been slightly bummed that it didn’t live up to it’s 9th grade greatness. But this song by THE THE still stands up 30 years after it was released! Oh 80′s pop music, I heart you.

The debut album from Chvrches is out!

I feel like I’ve been putting their singles on my playlists for so long, I never thought a full length record was going to arrive. But the debut record from Chvrches is finally here! Truth be told, I have NOT listened to the whole record. BUT I plan on remedying that first thing tomorrow morning on the way to work. Most days my work commutes are miserable, but tomorrow Denver…bring on the traffic. I need to listen to some Scottish sweethearts sing their synthpop hearts out.

Pick out a scarf

It’s fall, the nights are getting cooler and the leaves are starting to change here in Colorado. This is such a beautiful time of the year! Pick out a scarf and listen to The Naked and Famous “Punching In A Dream”. They are coming to the Fillmore in Denver October 18th, here are other tour dates.

Dream it up

Have you heard of Sydney Wayser? You probably have but if you haven’t you will fall in love! I discovered her music while watching a clever video made by Madewell. She is delightful. I hope she makes it to Colorado to perform. The song below is fun and inspires me to dream up anything I feel like. Enjoy!

Play Good

Not only do Christy and I run around the Denver area chasing musicians and dancing at red lights but I make videos for Techstars, an amazing startup accelerator.  One of the companies that just went through the program is Given Goods.  You might be wondering what is Given Goods?  I’ll tell you!  Given Goods is the marketplace for goods that give back.

How awesome are these products!?  So for all of you music lovers and video makers out there check out the Play Good Be Nice headsets and the Custom monogram camera strap on GivenGoods.co.  There are also some fun speakers, play music anywhere, and a record player t-shirt. You can see what kind of impact you make right below the products on their website.

MTV’s This is the Place

If you haven’t been to Denver you may just see it as a city somewhere in the west. A place people go to ski the Rockies and enjoy outdoor activities a mile above sea level. Well, that is true and we love it! Denver also has an eclectic music scene! We are home to one of the most beautiful venues, Red Rocks and some extremely talented musicians which are featured in MTV’s new series, This is the Place. The Window Seat was also represented in this episode, which made us soooooooooooooo very happy and honored. Hope you enjoy it and learn something about the diverse music scene in Denver.

MTV, thanks for including us in this episode, we look forward to seeing other cities!

RIP Front Seat Car Speaker…

This is embarrassing. Last night I think I blew one of the speakers in my car listening to the Icona Pop song, “All Night”. Sure I like dancing to Icona Pop, but it’s not the coolest song to kill your speakers. I once in knew a very handsome boy in school who blew his car speakers by blaring Sigur Ros–which is totally acceptable and of of course terribly cool.

I blame I-25 and the fact that my windows were down. But mostly I blame my love of guilty pleasure electro pop songs like this one. I’ve posted it below for your listening pleasure–but be warned this song has the power to blow your mind and your speakers!

UMS 2013 I miss you!

Last weekend was brilliant, no? I don’t have to tell you. If you are reading this, you were probably there, and I saw you on the street and it was perfect. But now that the dust has settled, I can honestly say without a doubt my favorite show of the weekend (although not an actual UMS show) was Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. Five days after the show and I am still tapping my toes to the “Son of a Bitch” song.

In my book, any good performance must deliver on three things- unity, revelation and awakening of the spirit. There was a sense of unity, a common goal between every instrument and musician on that tiny stage and tiny roof. Nathaniel was able to reveal the universe when he cried out his lyrics to the crowd. And most importantly, the music awakened the spirit of the spectators–people were clapping, singing along, dancing. Losing themselves for a brief moment. Sometimes I’ll be at a show and 70% of the people are looking around the room, texting, ordering drinks and the music misses us. Not on Saturday afternoon with Nathaniel and the Night Sweats. What a show.

Until next year UMS–I’ll be thinking of you fondly.

From the air

Christy and I have had a hectic summer but we’re still here. Music is something that makes us extremely happy so we promise to stick around making more & more videos all about music… and writing more! Tomorrow I’m flying on a plane to Philly with camera equipment and my toddler son. Yep! Surprisingly I’m not nervous at all. Here’s the playlist my son and I will listen to from the window seat of our flight to Philly. They aren’t the newest songs but they are some good songs.

heart,

m.
