Anthem of the Week: Hands “The Game is Changing Us”

Such a catchy new track from LA based band Hands! They have a new record out called Synesthesia which I’ve been enjoying amidst these 100 degree summer afternoons. Check them out here or on Spotify. OR if you live in my lovely city of Denver check them out Friday night at the Larimer Lounge.

There’s been a lot of great buzz about this band, so come down to the LL on Friday night and listen in with us!

Even TIME magazine agrees you should check them out!

See you soon please!!

Ian Cooke’s “STAGES”

Our friends Ian Cooke, Ray Trout and Ian O’Dougherty just released this great documentary about a collaboration between Ian Cooke and the 303 choir (OMG the 303 kids are so awesome).

Trout, a media producer, and O’Dougherty, a musician (Ian Cooke, Uphollow, Tauntaun, Eolian) and video editor, have been producing this doc since early 2012 with no budget. SO to support them you can go to www.iancookemusic.com to download an HD video file of the final performance, plus a 5-track EP featuring several versions of the song, documenting the evolution from demo to finale.

We LOVE Denver and it’s amazing musicians. So proud to live here!!

Anthem of the Week: Foxygen’s “No Destruction”

Foxygen is a collaboration between Sam France and Jonathan Rado. Their nods to 60′s and 70′s music-leads me to believe that we grew up with very similar record collections. Their first full length album is entitled We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic, and was produced by the incredibly talented Richard Swift. Although all of the songs are good, our anthem of the week is our favorite. How do you not love a song that includes lyrics regarding milkshakes and hotel parlours?

Now you think that I don’t know but I know you to know quite well
That I caught you sipping milkshakes in the parlor of the hotel
There’s no need to be an asshole, you’re not in Brooklyn anymore
You may take what you are given but you leave it on the floor

Anthem of the Week: Paper Bird “Through These Days”

Denver darlings Paper Bird are releasing their 4th album tomorrow! It’s called Rooms, and from what we’ve heard so far–we love it. Each song is like a room of a giant musical house, and we would like to vacation there permanently! One song that we particularly fancy right now is “Through These Days“. It’s posted below for your listening pleasure, it’s our anthem of the week-enjoy!

And don’t forget to check out Paper Bird’s new record Rooms out tomorrow! This new record was tracked LIVE, which is good news to fans of their energetic live shows! Plus, they have added a bunch of new instruments on the record!

Anthem of the Week: Rhye “Open”

I blush every time this song comes on my itunes. Can’t help it. Maybe it’s the video they made for this single. Or maybe it’s just because I love Mike Milosh’s vocals. File the new Rhye album in the “makeout” section of your record collection. Right next to the XX and Sade.

PS: Pitchfork gave RHYE’s record an 8.5, and are calling it one of the Best New Albums of 2013.
