Band Episode: Chimney Choir

The Window Seat :: Chimney Choir from The Window Seat on Vimeo.

One lovely Sunday morning Megan and I ventured to the amazing Museum of Nature and Science for a field trip with local favorite’s Chimney Choir. This group of magical multi-instrumentalists treated us to a morning serenade on the roof of the museum. They played a song from their latest album Compass, an album made up of a multitude of instruments and harmonies. I highly recommend you take a listen here.

Local friends, please go see them next Friday at Northwest Denver Folk Festival next Friday May 16th at the Oriental. AND I just heard the BEST NEWS EVER—they are working with local dance company Wonderbound to write a full-length ballet that will premiere in April 2015. Two of favorite things in the world ballet and local music—yes please I’ll take a ticket to every performance!!

Chimney Choir we heart you.

Dance Card: Young Galaxy “Pretty Boy”

We are loving this track from Canadian dream pop band Young Galaxy. This is from their fourth album entitled Ultramarine. This track makes us want to take a long drive through the city at night, but since it was the middle of the day and we had lunch plans at our favorite sandwich shop we settled for a shoot in the park with a bright yellow poncho.

Lots of love from sunny Colorado,

Throwback Thursday: Band Interview with Hey Marseilles

The Window Seat :: Hey Marseilles from The Window Seat on Vimeo.

The song “Heart Beats” by Hey Marseilles came on while my iPod was shuffling along last night. It was so good, instead of pulling into my driveway I made loops around my neighborhood so I could hear through twice through before calling it a night. Any song that good deserves a throwback thursday post.

What a fun evening it was hiding out in that bookstore making this video. I hope you enjoy it.

Dance Card: Cold War Kids “Miracle Mile”

I was supposed to do great things
I know the road was long
But I wasn’t raised to shoot for fame
I had the safety on

I cut my ties, I sold my rings
I wanted none of this
If you start from scratch you have to sing
Just for the fun of it

I cut some serious ties this week…The only thing to do is follow the cold war kids advice, and start singing just for the fun of it. I hope you’ll join me.

Dance Card:Bleachers “I Wanna Get Better”

The Window Seat :: Dance Card :: Bleachers from The Window Seat on Vimeo.

As we were shooting this yesterday, there was a bus driver on the lot walking towards his bus. As he got closer, we stopped shooting and he just looked at us and said, “I guess it’s a beautiful day to be alive,” and kept on walking. We hope you love this song as much as we do, and we dare you not to listen to it on repeat and dance along.

Bleachers is the side project of FUN’s Jack Antonoff, and luckily you can expect a full-length record this spring. In the meantime, enjoy this perfect anthem with us–and lets all get better….better….better…better.

Dance Card: San Cisco “Fred Astaire”

Well, of course I miss you baby
I’ve been thinking lately
That you don’t need me anymore
You’d be better with Fred Astaire
He could take you anywhere
If you ask him to

Such a sad, but upbeat pop song! The lead singer is basically saying, “You should be with this other guy, because he’s so talented and cool.” But I’ve found we don’t always chose who we fall for. Even if the other guy is Fred Astaire, he’s not you, and you are the one for me…..

Survivor Blues

Have you seen our episode on Cory Branan? We felt pretty spoiled sitting in the basement of the Hi-Dive in Denver listening to Cory sing “Survivor Blues”. Can not believe it was already a year ago. It was just his voice and guitar, absolutely beautiful. Here’s the recording of the song below and then listen to him sing the song in our episode. They definitely sound different. Fun to hear both versions.

We made this Dance Card a very long time ago but it always makes me happy.  I just want to jump into the video and dance with Christy in front of the library on a cool day wearing boots and knowing we are going to stop and get some hot chocolate afterwards.  Although we’ve already posted this one it’s fun to revisit some of our oldies especially when the King Khan and the Shrines are coming to Denver October 19th performing at the Larimer Lounge.

Standby: Big Deal

Big Deal has a new record coming out next week entitled June Gloom! We are very excited for this new record, because from what we’ve heard it sounds a little bit like the pixies! Can’t wait!

Band Episode: Hey Marseilles

Dear music loving friends,
This is a video we made with Seattle band Hey Marseilles when they came to visit our fair city of Denver. Listening to Hey Marseilles play their song “Heart Beats” took me back to an evening in 1999 when I stumbled into a show and heard Death Cab For Cutie for the very first time. There is a sincerity in the lyrics and chords that make you happy and sad all at the same time. And to me– that is the best kind of art…everything at once, the good and the bad, the salty and the sweet.

I hope you’ll like them as much as we do.
