Let’s Listen to Music Together!

Starting Valentine’s Day we’re going to share one video a week with some other surprise posts. Music brings people together, it makes us happy. That simple. So please join us in a gigantic dance party all over the internet and let’s listen to lots of music, together.

Favorite songs of 2012

The Window Seat Top 10 songs of 2012 from The Window Seat on Vimeo.

I realize we are half way through January 2013, but I haven’t been able to decide on my favorite songs until just last week. There is so much music to listen to, and so little time. The Dance Card above is just a mix of the songs we continuously put on mix cds and played at social gatherings this year. These were the songs that kept drifting back into our heads time and time again. You might know these songs, but if not, I highly suggest you listen to them from start to finish asap.

I hope you are staying warm in this coldest of January’s. If not turn up the music and dance until you can feel your fingers and toes again!

happy 2013,

Band Episode: The Autumn Film

These local lovelies are the perfect soundtrack to November. Brisk air, warm afternoons and chilly evenings. Also, could they be any more down to earth, funny and down right AWESOME? I want to make friendship bracelets for Tifah and call her everyday after school to talk shop about the cute boy from 5th period.

Special thanks to everyone at:

Without further adieu, we present The Autumn Film.

ANTHEM OF THE WEEK: Chvrches “The Mother We Share”

My big sis got engaged last weekend. I miss her every day (she lives in D.C.), but I’m excited for her new adventures.

My anthem for the week…or maybe the month…or maybe the year is: Chvrches “The Mother We Share”. This song is ACE.

“And the mother we share will never keep your proud head from falling
The way is long but you can make it easy on me
And the mother we share will never keep our cold hearts from calling”

My boyfriend from 1999 has a new solo record coming out

It was a simpler time, it was 1999. I saw Death Cab and fell in love.

Dance Card: Capital Cities “Safe and Sound”

“You could be my luck,
Even if the sky is falling down
I know that we’ll be safe and sound”

dance cards are for lovers, C+M

Murder By Death indeed

I remember seeing Murder By Death a couple years ago, but they didn’t strike a chord like they did Thursday night at the Bluebird Theater. Maybe it’s my old age, or the fact that I actually prefer whiskey to anything else at the bar these days. Whatever it was, I felt like I finally understood them. Well– understood them enough to get goosebumps a couple times during their set.

Their 6th full-length album is due out September 25th. It’s entitled Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon., and you can pre-order it here. They funded the vinyl pressing of the record through a Kickstarter program and actually raised over 180k….talk about dedicated fans. At one point, I remember looking around at the crowd (a totally weird/interesting mix of people mind you) and they were singing along–they loved every single word.

I had a chance to catch up with them on Friday afternoon, before their second show and they were so kind, humble and funny–very funny. Sarah wasn’t there, but we chatted in passing and she was equally as cool as the guys. So nice to see such down-to-earth folks in the spotlight.

You can listen to several of their records on Spotify. And here are some of my favorite tracks they played at the show:
As Long As There Is Whiskey in the World
No Oath No Spell

“I toasted them boasted to them
That they had met their match
But as long as there is whiskey in the world
We can drink away the heartache
We can drink away the girls
Oh we long to love but we’ll never touch
As long as there is whiskey in the world”

Under Pressure

(Insert catchy bass line here) I’m pretty sure when Queen and David Bowie came together to work on their classic 1981 song, “Under Pressure” they were without a doubt feeling the pressures of super stardom, trying to live up to expectations of their fans, their managers, the press and themselves. They were feeling all the “pressures” you see featured on every episode of VH1’s Behind the Music. (Side note–Is that show still on?)

Lucky for me, I will never feel the pressures of stardom/adoring fans, but at 5am I am feeling the pressure of work deadlines, rent checks, speeding tickets and the usual “what am I doing with my life?” manic panic.

And so… at 5am, while feeling under pressure from all areas in my life…..I present to you the DON”T WORRY EVERYTHING”S GOING TO BE AMAZING playlist on Spotify. I can’t promise it will work better than cocktails and benzo’s, but it’s a little something to help me (and hopefully you) CHILL THE F*CK OUT. It’s like a lullaby playlist for anxiety ridden hipsters…..

This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves

Have you seen this lovely little trailer? It’s a brief summary of what we’re up to and where we hope to go!

Dance Card: The Wombats “Techno Fan”

The Window Seat :: Dance Card :: The Wombats from The Window SeatVimeo.

This song is from the Wombats 2nd record, The Wombats Proudly Present: This Modern Glitch. It’s the first song on my summer 2012 mix…sorry Nicki Minaj maybe you’ll make the cut next summer. I forgot about The Wombats (their last record came out in 2007) and then I heard this song and freaked out!! These Liverpool lads make some seriously catchy tunes.

In this Dance Card, we cut right out as the song is about to get reallllllllllly goood–it’s a serious tease of a dance card. To hear the full song, good parts and all go here. To learn more about The Wombats go here.

I never knew I was a techno fan,
